Is there a date stamped on the front of the stock? I would guess that the beech are WWII maybe even british made?

I just got an email from the owner. He says it's walnut.Must be the lighting and the red background that makes it look lighter.I know camera's can play tricks with your eyes sometimes.

Try removing the butt plate, and check the raw wood underneath. Maybe then you can tell. Don't know alot about M1917's but I think walnut and birch was used by the stock manufacturers.

RA-P is a Raritan Arsenal rebuild approval stamp.

absolutely walnut , and positively raritan arsenal rework , these did not come from the factory with a cartouch - but did have a letter stamped into the muzzle end that ID'd the mfgr [ie; E , R , W ] the eagle head is an inspection mark , and definetly US ,

i dont think the P1914 stock would fit unmodified , even though there were new made for wheedon rebuild , they would still have been for P1914 and the magazine well would need modification for sure ,
could have been stocks made for other foreign service but unaware who

I got it this afternoon. It's a beautiful rifle. All the parts I can see are E marked except the bolt body.It is winchester marked.Which way are the sling swivels suppose to be offset?looking at these as you are shouldering it the butt swivel is offset to the left, the lower one and the stacking swivel is offset to the right.

offset to the right looking butt-to-muzzle , it had to do with the volley sights on the Pattern 1913/14 rifles , it was one of the parts that remained unchanged in M1917 revisions because it was not 'neccessary' to the function , we were at war and needed rifles immeadiatly so only adjusted the parts necessary to convert from303 to 3006 ,
please shoot more photos - we want to see them , it sounds like a fine rifle ,
