I purchased a M1 carbine with a post war barrel (bayonet lug attached) and I'm having trouble reloading for it. It shoots PRVI ammo just fine. I'm using a set of Lee Precision dies and also bought an ECHO brand set of older dies not long ago. I've managed to get a primer strike, but no bang.

HELP, HELP, HELP.

Best Regards,

Mark

You may be over-sizing and over trimming. Theretically a good primer strike should set off a cartridge. Maybe the strikes are too light. If you over-size it effects headspace and the firing pin does not hit properly. This especially happens if you trim off too much.
Thus the questions..did you trim? Try loading without trimming.
Turn your die back some, and have it so a fired and sized case just fits the chamber.

I used the old Lee case trim gage. I was told this round wasn't real easy to reload and I've not been disappointed. My Grandfather was a toolmaker at the old GM Inland plant in Dayton where many of them were made. I've even met a member of the Underwood family and they made them too.

Best Regards,

Mark

I got a box of fired PRVI I'll not trim and reload. Well around 15 rounds anyways. Thanks for the advise. It seems sound.

It is not hard to load...you must be doing something wrong and likely it is your sizing.

That wouldn't surprise me. I'm relatively new to reloading and real new to the 30 cal carbine round. I've been warned by my elders that it isn't real easy. The sizing could be it for sure.

I have a few carbine rounds and a couple 15 rd mags you can have. Got them when I was in the USAF.

I'll be sending you a PM soon. Got to pick up my daughter from Ohio State for Thanksgiving now. Or should I say, chemical engineering student? Go Bucks. Well, I did go to BGSU.

Best Regards,

Mark
