I am picking up a new to me carbine with all correct parts and stock (except bolt--not sure on it) I had a few sites that listed the year made by serial number. Mine is 4311712 and is a Postal Meter made. And yes I forgot to look at the barrel date! Does anyone have a book that will tell me year made?

Thanks

Sorry NebrHogger this will be a keeper!

Dec 43 to May 44 they were assigned 4,080,000-4,432,099. Sorry; no better break down that that. April 44 would be a good guess. Note The barrel may have a date 2-3 months earlier.

Here is my Inland also since I'm posting. The Inland is a great story (its a tale but believable to me) I was in a long gone gun store when this guy walks in and has this carbine and a Colt 45. He said he just found them in his parents home on the coast and according to his mom the Govt during WW2 gave them to them to help protect the coast due to them being in a remote area. The guy kept the 45 but sold me the rifle and 200 rounds of 30 carbine and 200 rounds of 45 in the rotting boxes.

The other one is a correct Winchester but on a reproduction folding stock, It came with a nice stock but the stock was post war Springfield (its wrapped up and put away) one of these days I'll find a nice Winchester stock for it!!

congrats you have done well , im particularly fond of the postal meter as thats what i have as well , IBM is a barrel supplier for them so that works , as a side note my referance states that during intitial testing national postal meter had the best over-all test record for military carbines produced during wwII ,
they delivered 250500+ in 1943 AND 162000+ IN 1944 , THEY WERE ASSIGNED sn 1450000-1549999 , 1937520-1982519 , and then 4075010-4079999 , 4080000-4432099 , and i think that puts yours in the april of 1944 vintage - end of production , finalising of the contract ,
