When did Century import Garands and from where exactly? I recently came across a Springfield that looks like it could've came direct from the CMP except for the fact it had a small CAI import stamp discreetly located on the muzzle/side of the barrel. How long has it been since they brought those in, and where'd they come from? All the parts look springfield... it's post WW2 production.

The ones I saw were marked either on the barrel end or the gas tube (can't remember which) There are 4 sitting in a shop near me with $ 875 on the tag. No Thanks

After 1968 GCA, Garand prices climbed back then to $500 which was alot. No new ones could be imported at that time. True DCM guns varied from $125 to $165 but only one lifetime could be bought. When the import restriction was dropped some 13 years later, some really poor ones were brought back in, but prices dropped to about half. It is only due to the CMP's ability to sell by the 10,000's that we are able to get them. The presently imported ones are reportedly beat and shot out. That does not mean there can't be a good one, but it is a risky chance.

Well, I was hoping to get one more from the CMP to go with the other two (you know, so I could utilize the stacking hook finally) but I kinda had the feeling they were scraping the bottom of the barrel. And for what they're currently asking... seems like too much of a gamble.

When I was a teenager in the 1960's, the M-1 rifles were expensive relative to other milsurp guns even before the 68 GCA. Martin Retting in Culver City, CA used to sell them for $100 to $140 when a nice Mauser 98k was $25 (1965). In my experience, they have always commanded a premium price and people who want one have always wondered why. If you consider how much buying power the dollar has lost lately, they still shouldn't seem any more expensive relative to other things than they have previously. Example: if priced at $1,000 an M-1 rifle only costs approx. 14 tanks of gasoline (20 gal tank).
