I had accumulated a collection of parts over the last year to assemble into a John C. Garand match rifle.

CMP barreled receiver--4.3 million range receiver with a 1965 barrel. The barrel specs close to new -throat erosion less than 2, ME less than 1. Matching reparkerizing.

Woodless Danish Garand--1.1 million range receiver with a well worn 1948 Springfield barrel and mostly Springfield and a few Berretta parts

New CMP stock

Yesterday I picked up the finished product from Tom Luhmann, a Garand-smith from Clovis, California, who custom fit the parts from the woodless Dane onto the barreled receiver, channelled the front handguard for op-rod clearance, tuned the op-rod, and did a trigger job.

Wow, that is one great looking rifle calfed.
I especially like the wood on it.
It looks fantastic.

Finally got a chance to shoot the Garand

Two clips @200 yards, Greek HXP CMP ammo. The lower holes and 2 that missed the target altogether were shot while i was fiddling with the sights to line them up

One clip of LC CMP ammo @ 100 yards

The 200 yard group looks better than the 100 yard target and I'm not sure why. I've heard that HXP is widely thought to be better ammo than LC, but that seems excessive. On the other hand--I may have been having a bad day
