Several months ago I got this Remington match rifle at an on-line estate sale. I knew it wasn't "as issued", but thought it might be some kind of a military match rifle. Since then, I haven't been able to determine whether this was issued as some kind of match rifle by the NRA or CMP or if it is a "one-off" target rifle built by a gunsmith.

Anyone have any idea?

It appears to be a very well made one time match gun. Haven't been able to review my books, but the blueing and stock and the year are indications that it was not military issue in that format. From memory;I don't believe any Remingtons were used as match rifles, the Springfields being in the 1925-1938 era. It is marked as an 03, but has the nose cap and handguard of an A3,front sight of an A3. It would have been an 03 when made originally. Nice gun though!

If it is not marked on the floor plate and barrel with NRA stamps it might not be such. What shape is the tang, is it still stock or has it been modified.

I pulled off the handguard and determined that someone has gone to great deal of trouble bedding the action and free floating the barrel. The barrel doesn't seem to touch anywhere.

Again I'll say that is just an all round beautiful rifle with a gorgeous walnut custom stock. :!: :!:
