Way back in the March, 1986 issue of American Rifleman there was an article written by John R. Clarke called "Reloading for the M1 Rifle." The data in that article is very close to what Harris has recommended. I tore the article out and have used it many times over the years when loading for the M1. Hopefully the powder formulations haven't changed enough over the years to make a difference. |

Main thing is to avoid powders that burn too slowly and result in excessive gas port pressures, those can bend or break op rods. They mainly used IMR single base powders during WW2 so this was not a problem. Slower powders and loads to drive bullets heavier than 150 grains to max velocity can sometimes pose a problem, unless the gas port is bushed. |

I used 2 powders for mine.imr 4895 and AA2520 always group good in my rifles. pete |

howdy , I have used 47 grs of IMR 4895 in GI cases and never had a problem with functioning or Accuracy |
