the M1917 will however have a significant number[cant recall offhand how many] of parts 'letered' to the manufacturer , ie: E , W , R , including the muzzle end of the stock , and they did not mix them at manufacture , they will be all of one mfgr , they were mixed in service and later use , the P1914 however had the bolt numbered to the reciever , as did the enfields , BTW these are not technicaly an enfield , they were developed there [at enfield] but they were a mauser clone , while retaining the enfield butstock and cock-on-closing feature they were based mostly on the US M1903 [which is a mauser knockoff]which they were considering at about that time , thats why i like them i think - ties the two collections together well |

im going to add here that there were inspector marks on the rifles - eagles head & numbers , but no cartouch was present when they left the factories , those were added at rearsenal , also the designations on the reciever were changed drasticaly between the P1914 , they used ERA for eddystone , W for winchester[also seen on the earliest M1917s] , and R in an oval for remington , this over the serial number is all there was , when it was changed to the 3006 the markings were US / MODEL OF 1917 / mfgrs name - spelled out / serial number , the only confusing ones were those early winchesters but they included US over the W , the foreign use was generaly marked in the stock , ie "C"arrow for canada , "N"arrow"Z" for new zealand , as well as the red paint band in england and canada for non-303 ammo recognition , the wwII upgrades included RIA [rock island arsenal] , HS[high standard] , JA[johnson automatics] , marked replacement bbls that were marked as the originals were except for the dates , there were USMC bolts that were made by united shoe machine company - do not be fooled into thinking marine use , danes marked with the FTK in their use |
