Post subject:  Case rupture question?

Shot my mosin today at 100 yards. This red army new ammo lacquered case got stuck in the chamber. Took me about ten minutes, and finally got the bolt open. I hope its not a headspace issue. It shot okay after that but shells were harder and harder to extract. I've been trying to resize the image to no avail. Its about a half inch crack, all the way through, just below the taper. Thanks for any input. Eli

A dimension somewhere is out of spec. You could try a chamber cast to see how bad it is.

A former owner might have fed the rifle bad reloads and sprung the chamber. SW

....I may be admittedly ignorant on the subject but in any Mosin I've shot, the good ol' brass surplus and it has been great with no issues...as soon as I switched to lacquered (in same rifle) I had similar sticking problems......and I've got 550 rounds of 1953 dated Polish lacquered on stripper clips waiting on range time... :-? ....have read eleswhere to take a chamber brush on a drill and ream it clean....havent tried it yet...

Maybe you just got bad steel case ammo? I don't have experience with the lacquered stuff. SW

Cleaned up the chamber with a 30 cal bore brush and hoppes number 9. It looks ok. Ill go shoot it some more next week, with brass case only. Thanks for the responses.Eli

Put twenty rounds of brass cased winchestet through my 91/30. The bolt cycled smooth, and it shot great. Guess it wad those steel cases. Time to clean guns!☺

Sticking cases is not a sign of bad headspace.
As you discovered, the issue was the lacquered cases.
