Has any one here attempted to remove the folding bayonet on a type 44? I rescued a 1945 T44 from a friend who was going to part it out.

It has a dark bore and has been sporterised but it is not import marked and all the parts that would be marked are serial numbered the same. What it needs is a stock and the folding setup.

I know its more work then its worth but I would like to have a matching non import marked rifle that has not been arsonaly refinished.

A Hunting Carbine.......

Could ther be two pins holding it to the barrel, or solder?

You know I was thinking that Hailstone was going to see it as a hunting carbine!! I want to but it back to original if I can figure out how to get the bayo section off and a new one on.

There should be 1 pin going vertically towards the 'lug' side of the whole assembly. Yours may be ground down by bubba. Once you knock it out you can heat the FSB & knock it off from the back side, or if you have a hydraulic press you may be able to use it to get the FSB off. You should be able to find a new one & the bayo easily enough

Thanks for the info. I looked at a friends stock pile and he has about 5 parts rifles so I have a bayo from there. and I saw on the parts rifes the 2 pins and yes your right it looks as if the rear pin has been ground down or away. All I need to find now is a nice or decent stock. I have a 44 stock on one of my 38's I might be able to use it.

I some day hope to find a nice 38 stock. I have even told myself that if I found a true nice 38 stock on a mixed or billboard (import marked) rifle I would buy it just for the stock.

I had 2 of the 38's in M38 stocks, 1 was matching (no force or electro) but they are both gone now. If I had known............

You could also probably make a 91-30 stock into one but you would have to probably relocate the front sling slot.

Don in the picture of the M44L you show, it looks almost like a 91/30 with an M44 FSB/Bayo. Do you know what the length of barrel is on the "L" model?
