Well here is a cool looking Mosin with an odd way to carry the bayonet!!

Sorry its in Italian so if you want to read about it you have to use a translator.

Try this link for more info and it should come up with a translation.

Wow, that is a very, very rare one. :-o
It is the second made Mosin Nagant carbine.
The first one was produced in 1896 at the Sestroretsk arsenal.
The “inventor” of this first carbine was Colonel Jurlov.
It was the “Gendarmerie Carbine” and only 11 were produced.
Not one of these seem to have survived.

The carbine in the picture was produced for and at the St. Petersburg Cavalry School using standard Mosin Nagants Model M91.
The M91 rifles were shortened and were given a stepped barrel.
You will also find the sling swivels at the left side of the of the stock and barrel bands specially made for this carbine.
The piece of metal just under the rear sight is a fixed bayonet scabbard.
You will find a picture of the fixed scabbard here under nr. 2.

The rear sight is the same as found on the 1907 carbine.
The bolt handle is shortened and slightly bent.

Thanks for the pictures Mark.
Made me check my books and notes again.

Met vriendelijke groet,

Martin
