Yes I no longer need any Isky's! I now search for Tula's, Remington's and Westinghouse and any pre 1930's matching but in their original configuration.

Don,

Officially the production of the M38 stopped on the same date the production of the M44 started, which is January 1944.
M44's dated 1943 do exist though.
But....they are test carbines manufactured at the Tula arsenal.
Tula was the arsenal that first produced these carbines and sent them to the front for testing purposes.
So....officially...an Izhevsk M38 must have had the original M38 stock without the bayonet relief when it left the arsenal in 1943.

Great hobby we have don't we.

Well I don't know why I didn't think of this a long time ago but looking at a 91/30 and the M38, I can just shorten a 91/30 stock to the correct specs! All I need to do is find a correct era stock (for the sling holes) to cut down.
