So I purchased a PU ex-sniper with the updated matching bolt - figured it would be relatively easy to get a new mount and scope on and restore the bugger. He'd already gotten the stock ready to go...
...well - rule 1 - never buy someone else's started project. I tried to finish drilling out the holes for the scope mount - that went horribly awry. Ended up having to hand it off to a friend to re-fill (the already re-filled) holes and start over on the drill and tap. Fortunately he was able just to pop the plugs for the pins. Picked up the receiver yesterday night:
Spent several hours rebluing where he'd had to polish it - finally got the blue to match. Then came the fun part - reattaching the scope mount. Got it started, got the screws down, then got the pins pounded in with hammer and punch:
Only problem I discovered is I had pushed one pin in too far and the bolt wouldn't close. Fixed that and now the bolt cycles properly. Unfortunately, also discovered that the ejector screw went walkabout, and my bud forgot to bring back the front barrel band...
Will post more pix once I get the pieces parts and the rest of it together.
