Picked up three M39's at an estate auction recently and noticed something that none of my other m39's have. There is a hammer or hammer-like object on the receiver. All my other M39's have a depression where the "hammer-thing" is, or nothing at all.







Apart from my own experience, is the "hammer thing" a rarity?

I've seen pic's of one mosin receiver that was cracked in the time ive been collecting mosins. don't know what happened to that one. early receivers are just as good as the late ones.

the tula hammer on the top receiver flat was used in the early 20's. not sure what year they stopped using it, but I think it stopped in 1926 or so.
