but don't know if any mosin nuts saw it. I have a 1933 hex action & have been thinking of putting a Shilen 375 cal barrel on it. Maybe making a 38 X 54r wildcat. I think I could modify the magwell to fit no problem but my thoughts are to keep it "Stock" looking with a military stock set. Then maybe a PE scope mount. Any thoughts?

I don't think leaving it looking like a stock military rifle will allow you to explore the rifle.cartridge combination's true potential.

I had a Hex receiver MN cut to carbine length here for awhile, working up accurate mild loads using primed unfired military steel cases for the friend who owned it.
I was impressed by the lines of this old action type. It looked to be well suited to a side mount and theres probably several of the sort made for lever actions and slab sided auto loaders that can be easily adapted.
The heavy bullet might have untapped long range potential.
Theres a conversion of the MN action which sets the bolt handle back behind the bridge, this requires cutting away material to allow the handle to sit at about the same spot as the Mauser, and allows low overbore scope mounting, or use of receiver mounted apeture sights.
Might as well go full house on the conversion.
I have an article on Finn sporter MN rifles, one of which has the military stock heavily modded, a new pistol gripped butt stock with high comb is fitted to the old stock by cutting the old butt into a accute angled triangle shape mated to a triangle cut in the new butt, the fore end is also spliced to give a more comfortable hold. Contrasting wood was used. The results looked far better than commonly available sporter stocks.

When I was over in Finland their favorite cartridge to modify for the mosin with was the 9.3x53R. I shot this caliber in a modified 1895 Winchester and Mosins and it worked very well. I have often thought what it would be like to modify one for 45/70. I think the mosin action is very strong.

saw an 1891 in a finn stock in a pawnshop in jonesville, ar once that had been modified with a .45-70 barrel. the stock was heavily inletted for the barrel to fit, everything else was stock mosin though. no idea if they modified the bolt or magazine, as I didn't look at it too closely. NO idea what .45-70 barrel was used, either. who knows, it might even still be there. I remember it was on the south side of hwy 18, across the street from the mall.
