I bought a rifle at a shop today and they had this nagant for sale as well as the other rifle I was there to pick up. I could not pass on it. It was the oldest date I have seen on one that I could hold in my hands. It is finn capture marked. The bolt does not match, and it was counter bored but the marks are crisp I could not find an import mark on it. I don't know if the Russians did the counter bore or if it was done by someone her in the states. Once again I must do some more research, any info welcome.

An M1895 Nagant is a revolver that has nothing to do with a Mosin Nagant rifle. Which are we talking about here? The picture is a rifle.

....guys-it an M-91....not a 91/30....its a loooooooong one...longer than 91/30....compare with this photo of one of my 91/30's and M91....czech the band location and rear site...and the front site aint a globe

1895 was in reference to the date on the receiver not the model of rifle. the model a 91

i was about to note that he was speaking of the date on the M91 rifle , but i see he beat me to it , and i know just a little more now than i used to before reading this thread

i do have a nagant revolver tho

nice looking 1895 tula. the counterbore was most likely done in finland.

to make things even more confusing, early 91/30's had blade front sights (these are the rifles the panshin bayonets were made for), and many finn modified 91/30's have stacked front blade sights.
the easiest way to tell an m1891 is the barrel, it's 32 inches. there were rifles made during that period with 91/30 length barrels, but they were called dragoons or cossack rifles then. either is much harder to find than an m1891 and very desireable. only real difference between the dragoon and the cossack is that the cossack rifle has KA3 stamped on the barrel shank.
