I wrote an article for the Italian forum about Carcano rifles with the "Artillerie Zeugs Fabrik" or AZF mark.

I have heard of Mosin-Nagants with the same mark.

What are the facts about that? I didn't realize Austria and Russia fought to a great extent.

I did read of the Russian losses to Germany in the region of the Pripet (sp?) Marshes which is why Italy sent several thousand 10.4x47R Vetterlis and ammo to the Tsar. SW

I don't know much about the fighting. All I do know is that I have some barrels that are marked AZF and/or have the Austrian crest on the barrel reinforce. I am recalling this from about 4 years ago and to make sure I am going to have to hunt down the barrels. I thought these were Austrian made barrels because I did not see Austrian capture marks on the receiver stubs, they were tighter bored than the usual Russian made barrels and they came from Finnish sources.

Well, Russia was on our side in WWI, until Lenin took over and quit the war. So I guess it's possible they fought Austrians somewhere on the eastern front.

You are right. I looked it yp, and the butt-kicking that followed played no small part in the Czar's demise. SW
