Type 99, no antiarcraft sights, no dust cover, and the mum ground off.

But it is a FINE shooter. I put it up there with some of my Finn Mosin Nagants.

When I bought this thing I also bought a Swiss K31 right about the same time. So I took them both to the range the same day for the first time. I was ready for that supposed Swiss accuracy. I even used the famous GP11 ammo. All I had for the Arisaka was some Remingtons.

The Jap outshot the Swiss...... :ow:

New to the post and have enjoyed reading everything under this section.

I have a Type 99 and agree that is a great shooter.

Thanks.
If I have a question about a Type 97 should I start a new topic or just post it here?

How does the Type I shoot? Does it distort brass like the Type 38?

Both my Type I rifles shoot very well. No issues with brass - the chambers were cut tight.

As mentioned, riceone knows about Jap rifles - he contributed heavily to the Jap militaria book I just edited.

He doesn't stop in here too often, and none of us are really die hard collectors of that genre. You might send him a PM at gunborards dot com. He's a genuine gentleman and really knows his stuff. SW

Thanks fellows, I don't write on any of the boards very much anymore. I do miss the interaction of all boards. This is a good board. I've had my share of 99's and still have quite a few. The joy of this hobby is the hunting and finding. I'm selling my rare stuff, I want it in hands of someone who appreciated it like I did. My children are not collectors and they would not appreciated the rare stuff as they should. Two of the greatest Japanese collectors died recently - Doss and Ruth White. Doss wrote many books, was the editor of Banzia and was responsible for me to meet some of the greatest collectors and he helped me find many rare rifles. We all miss him. Be glad to help anyone I can.

It is sad to hear two collectors have passed away. I have just recently been bitten by this bug and find them facinating. I got to try a type I recently and it was a pleasure to shoot.
