Attention New Members and those new registering!
We had a lot of problems with spammers and bot attacks with the stock measures provided by the software. The 7 for registration was a fix that we came up with on our own that has worked quite well. Yes it is a PIA for both you and administration to put you onto your chosen username.
If you come back on and your login does not work retry with your username without the 7.

Thanks for joining us from the administration.

Some of the first T 44s produced exhibit extreme wear on the left side, on some the wear is through the fullers and the side of the trigger guard shows. This is from "sliding" across the troopers shoulder as the horse galloped along, producing a sanding effect bewtween the tunic and wood. This probably occured on the China front.

In a past Banzai article I reported on one I saw at a show that had a plaque on the butt, presented to an officer from his men This suggests the rifles were stored in Japan at the war's end. MRoJ notes the first bayonet design on these early rifles caused a problem with accuracy. So rather than rebuild them they were shipped to Japan and stored. (Don't melt down the Emperior's rifles? But why not sell them to another country?) Anyway, just noted the mum on T 44 #10586, a carbine with extensive wear on the side. The mum is "canceled" with two strike marks. Anothere indication that these may have been in Japan when the war ended.

It's possible that these were brought home by the China Marines in the 1945-46 period, but there were better Japanese rifles to be had and these are not China imports. I bought my first "stock-worn 44" before the 1980s Chimese imports arrived and have never seen one import marked. The 44s from China all had the b'net removed and were in "NRA wretched"condition.

I had an early one that had a very worn left side... ended up selling it when I got my new Type 44

While not common they were not particularly uncommon in "the olden days, "1970s and 80s. I know of more than one that were parted out because of the stock condition.
