Another facet of this hobby is ordnance items. I don't know what y'all know about grenades & such but I just picked this up. It's a T-91 grenade that was modified to be a hand-grenade only like the T-97. The T-91 had a booster screwed to the bottom of the grenade for use in the T-10 & T-89 Knee Mortars. On this one the booster cutout has not been threaded and there are 6 lugs soldered around the bottom edge of the grenade. This would keep one from droping one of these into a Knee Mortar. Also, the base was painted white on these. This one has a fill date of Showa 16.11 (Nov. 1941), one month before Pearl Harbor. The six "lugs" appear to be a lead alloy that's soldered on - you can make a mark on it with a fingernail, but it's not as soft as pure lead.

Come one Mutt, why go to all the trouble to weld the tabs to the side and mess up the screw threads, all that was needed was just quit making the grenade boosters! I seem to remember they went to a different kind of fuse, think the T-10 and 91s were armed by firing the mortar (setback method??) and later ones had to be struck, vice versa or ??? They (Japanese) did not want a 91 fired from a T-10 or T-89 with the wrong fuse screwed to the g'nade body. Been a long time since I was wrong, the last time was when I thought your were an intelligent lad!

Don't know if Okeedokee reads this Board, but I eed to email him, will try to remember to ask.

Watch it on swords, the Chinese are making some very good copies of the NCO models. Fellow came up to our table at Lakeland with an NCO, about 50% paint on the handle, scabbard had a new paint job of "puke green." The sword had a serial number, but could not find one on the scabard. Seller wanted $500!!! Real or repro, it might have been worth half the asking amount if real, depending on how bad you wanted a sword.

I have a couple of early blades I lucked into, one was $50 and the other was two years of Banzai when it was about $26/year. Have 3-4 NCOs I bought years ago, but would not touch one now if I did not know the seller.
