Attention New Members and those new registering! We had a lot of problems with spammers and bot attacks with the stock measures provided by the software. The 7 for registration was a fix that we came up with on our own that has worked quite well. Yes it is a PIA for both you and administration to put you onto your chosen username. If you come back on and your login does not work retry with your username without the 7. Thanks for joining us from the administration.

Same old story - Get a copy of "Military Rifles of Japan" $42, order from Fred Honeycutt, 5282 Ridsan Way, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33418-6029 fredhoneycutt@bellsouth.net.

If you are only interested in 44s, photocopy the 10 -12 page section, or with one of the floppy backpacks carry the complete book to shows. There are some hard to find 44s, be a shame to pass over one because you did not know at what you were looking.

Some years back I ran across a ground 99 that did not "fit." I looked at it for several minutes before I realized it was the rarest of the concentric circle rifles, it had been ground! Bought it for $125 and later sold it for many times more, this thanks to Military Rifles of Japan.

There are some finishes that even an "advanced" (whatever that is) collector has a problem with - is it or is it not? Look for rounded edges, "drug out" fullers and vertical sanding on the butt stock. Look at enough rifles and those that have been monkeyed with will stand out like a diamond in a goat's a$$.

If all else fails just carry the blue paperback Japanese Rifles of World War II - it's not as detailed as MRoJ, but it's a nice high level work.

Steve,
the more you look at, the easier it gets. Many are ill struck and require some pretty hard looking to figure them out; often they are rotated 90 degrees to the left, which makes it even more interesting.

i think this speaks volumes about picking things you like and concentrating your efforts - also reinforces buying the books and reading up to get your head on straight ,

that said , i do just as you all do - and carry a card with notes on what im looking for - or two - or three
