Yesterday's Weapons Forums

I have always thought that no question is a stupid one. Everyone has different collecting prioirtys. I like to think that I know a little about everything but no everything about nothing.As far as trainers go they are a legitimate item in a collection. To each there own.

Well, I do try not to intimidate but hope to stimulate the study of these fascinating weapons. Sorry, if I come off differently at times.
This is really a vast field that includes rifles, pistols, swords, field gear, etc. That's why my main focus has been the rifles of Nagoya Arsenal (and the sub-contractors Izawa and Howa). Geeze, I just can't do it all! Right now my collection consists of 8 really nice pistol rigs that cover the main designs, around 40 rifles and 3 swords. I sold off around 35 rifles last year (some I hope to replace). In addition to Nagoya rifles I have three Tokyos - a T-38 rifle, carbine & T-44. A Kokura T-44 & T-99 (with bringback paper), and a couple of Jinsen T-99s. I've never owned a blank firing training rifle & don't intend to. Nothing against them really - just have to have some limits to this stuff. I also like some of the field gear & have a full mannequin with damn near everything but the entrenching tool (that's one of the rarest Japanese items there is - can you believe it? A damn shovel!). Also, items like cigaretts, currency & original photos add a lot of context to a display. By comparison, I have a pretty small collection especially considering that I've been at this for 40 years off & on.
As far as "stupid questions", I've only seen one person do that consistantly & he's not on this board.

I don't think there are any "gurus" in this hobby. It's too vast to take it all in or to even remember half of what you've learned. That's where the books come in, they can make you look smart!

Collecting by series only is kinda silly. Why, in the 7th series alone you can have anything from a rifle that has an adjustable sight, chrome bore, steel buttplate, etc, to a rifle that has all "last ditch" features. A whole lot of changes went on in Nagoya rifles from series 5 through 7.

its interesting how we all get to this eventually, [that may be a bit of a generalization] find that although many interest us, theres a few that excite us, concentration on a narrow path helps to focus the search.

Mike, do you have a 24th with the square bolt? That's what I would like to get! Google eye had a 24th in the last Banzai but couldn't find it when I called. Thinks he had sold it already. Also thinking about something like an 11th. Just so it is very late. Either one of those would double my "collection"! Of course if Rob wanted to help out a buddy, He's got a couple of Type 14s that would be a great start on any collection!

I had a nice 24th with that weird recoil lug. It was matching with a full mum & in really decent shape & I sold it about 5 years ago. Probably should have kept it, but I was into Nagoyas...
