found this one online, and it's on the way. mum has been scrubbed, but i don't collect flowers. don't notice years of production listed on the stickies, anyone know what years these were made? thanks, Keith

bad thing now is that i'm 3 mukden bayonets behind. all in all, i guess that's a good complaint to have though.

Keith, would you see if a regular T38 bolt form another arsenal will fit into that rifle. I have one that a bolt from another arsenal will not close and I have heard of others. Riceone.

That is a nice looking Mukden, Keith.

Riceone's question regarding the bolt fit caught my attention, and as I already had my type 38's lined up along the basement wall for cleaning and checking them against the new type 38 book, I tried swapping bolts.

I have Mukden type 38 rifle #5061854 and tried bolts from rifles of Tokyo 20th, Mukden 50th(W3), Nagoya 27th, Jinsen 30th. Nagoya 5th t-38 carbine, Nagoya 2nd type 44. None of these bolts would close in #5061854 and a couple of them got wedged in the rear position and took a smart slap of the hand to get them out.

I didn't try other combinations but it doesn't look like they are interchangable.

When I got the rifle someone had done some serious grinding on a T99 bolt and got it to close. Lugs don't match from a 38 to a 99. I think you could get by, by just grinding the protrusion on the outer rim of the 38 bolt but I took the barrel out and took some metal out of the cone so I could leave part of the protrusion. I checked the headspace with gauges and it is still correct so I did nothing to the chamber. I wonder does a Mukden bolt have that teat on the front of the bolt? riceone.

Bolt has the projection on the front just below the ejector slot, if that is what you are refering to. They all look pretty much alike. Without miking them, I doubt one could tell where the interference is.

Nest time I see my Mukden carbine I'm going to compare it with a nagoya bolt. May even take the barrel out and see if the end of the barrel is machined for the tab. The regular T38's are. riceone.
