Your rifle should have the same three last digits on the bolt.

Perhaps your next purchase should be 'Miliatary Rifles of Japan' by Honeycutt and Anthony. About $40 from the author. A good read and answers many questions.

brother, we seem to travel in a lot of the same circles. Guess it's good to know i'm not the only wingnut collecting everything in sight!!

I"m not so much into type 99's, but the last 3 of the s/n should be on the bolt and bayonet lug on these and on some of the late t38's. MROJ is an awesome resource for these rifles, even though there's a t38 book out now that might supercede portions of it. y'all have a good day, Keith

Some where around here is a small blue book on the rifles and I thought I had read that some type 99's were matched in another way.

Yes we do tend to follow around but its all in fun. I'll post photos of the rifle tomorrow when I have good natural sun light.

Here are some old photos of the rifle. Newer close ups will follow.

some series 30's matched by assembly number, as I recall that ended under 20k or so tho, by 46k they should match by last 3 digits of the serial number. Pretty gun, shame it doesnt match, but it sure looks nice,so bolt must be from a correct era rifle, what inspection proofs are on the bolt ?,thats usually where you can weed out whats what.

I'll pull the bolt later and post the photos. If by chance it is an assembly match where would be the matching number or is it just a series of numbers.

....I thought it was that the 3 digits under the bolt match the 3 digit# on the bottom back of the bayonet lug-at least, thats how mine is...but its a T99 long ;)

Just to clarify, even if you happen to have an early T99 matched by assembly #, a matching rifle will also have the last 3 digits of the serial # on the bolt. Kim

Herr Mario

I took another look at mine and the bolt, safety and the back (not bottom) of the bayonet lug are the same number. All the screws are staked so I'm not sure if I want to take it all the way apart.

If my notes are correct this is a Toyo Kogyo Series 30 rifle and the serial number is almost dead in the middle of the first series of the Toyo Kogyo arsenal build. The dust cover has markings but I'm unable to read them.

All this work makes me want to dig out my 2 type 38 long rifles. I have never tried to see what and when they were made.
