Post subject: Type 38 Training Rifle?

My uncle brought this back from New Guinea after the war. It looks like a Type 38 rifle, but it is a single shot. Based on the markings (see pics on link below) I am guessing it is a trainer and it is still covered in quite a bit cosmoline. The firing pin is missing as well. I posted a few pics at http://www.macunix.net/type38/.

Would something like this be collector worthy? Any hope of finding a replacement firing pin/spring assembly for the bolt?

Yes, the pics are inverted. All I had was an iSight camera on my laptop. I hope to get a chance this weekend and take some better pictures with a real camera.
