Tim that is a great looking rifle , very interesting that you got the history on it. That looks like a later made bayonet maybe mid war. And the frog I noticed it right off it isnt your usual rubber laminated canvas type. I have a frog exactly like it on a type 30 bayonet. You did great. Hey teyy the wife to come go shopping for me too.

Roy, I guess my userid didn't carry over. Since I didn't know if I could use gwsiii any more, I set up battanokami. Untill that is activated, its a Type 30 rifle, coverted to blank ammunition trainer by the Japanese, they converted about 10,000, removed receiver markings and renumbered 1-10,000 so says Honeycutt. Pretty neat rifles, I have one that has been converted to short rifle configuration with a finish marked stock, and british marked buttplate, probably some bacca over here, but quite unique, nonetheless. My brother has an old smooth bore Blank firing training rifle that I gave him years ago after I got tired of playing with it.

It has a stock much like a type 30 but with the type 99 bayonet lug and whats probably a type 38 receiver.
The stock is one piece, not dovetailed. Theres no separate tang as on type 99 rifles I've examined.
The floorplate is hinged.

The barrel is a simple pipe threaded into the cut off stub of the issue barrel. The rear sight is missing.

If I'm not mistaken type 30 actioned blank firing rifles were issued to the Navy for firing salutes at ceremonies and funerals at sea.
