The 7 for registration was a fix that we came up with on our own that has worked quite well. Yes it is a PIA for both you and administration to put you onto your chosen username. Or just go in and offer him $125 or so and see what he says,after all hes held it for 2 years,maybe he'll deal. Thats how I got my Type 38 for $45
from a local shop.-TR

In the 60's TP Shop in West Branch, Michigan would rechamber a 7.7 to 30-06 for $6. The would set the shoulder back and rechamber to 300 Savage for about $8. The reason for the set back of the shoulder was to shorten the chamber so the 300 Savage reamer would have something to cut. I have never seen or hear of a set back chamber when using a 30-06. The original Japanese 7.7x58 cartridge bulges in the original chamber just like a 30-06 case. The chambers were mode over size on purpose so that alittle foreign matter would not hinder the firing of a case. All 6.5x50 chambers on Japanese rifles are over size and therefore all 6.5 cases bulge. I am told that a few of the 6.5 Japanese rifles that made it to Europe were rebarreled in 6.5 using new barrels made over there and those chambers are tight and cases do not bulge. The T38's were converted by the Thai to 30-06 but they rebored the 6.5 barrel and rechambered to 30-06 which made a tight chamber. I have several T38 rifles in 8x57 and one carbine. Also have about 4 T38 carbines in 7.62x39. All these came from China. If you moved the barrel back very much on a T99 the hardware would have to be adjusted to hold the top handguard in.

The rifle I am getting was done by the Japanese Arsenals under US supervision and will be stamped US CAL 30 on the left front of the receiver. If not then it goes back. I can rechamber one myself if I just want a T99 to shoot 30-06. riceone

I've also heard some were chambered to 8mm(7.92x57) by the chinese.

If you can get it for under $175.00, then do so. A correct band should be inexpensive and easy to find. Send me a couple of bucks for postage and I'll send you a swivel.
