Here is a photo taken the other day as I was inventorying the rifle collections. Yes I need some earlier ones!!

That one is my baby with a great story. I saw this at a gun store a few years back and for 6 months kept watching it to see if I really needed to buy it. Then one late November I handed it to the sales clerk and asked them to hold it till after Christmas and then I would place it on law-away (I’ve been shopping there for over 17 years).

Then come the third week in January I drove to the store to put some money down on it and they were unable to find the rifle (yes I was bummed) they were sure they sold it some time ago.

Fast forward 8 months later I’m in the store again and I see a Winchester carbine I just needed to have. I take the carbine to the clerk to pay for it and there sitting on the floor in a corner is the 308 with the original note on it saying hold for me. I asked where it had been and no one knew “it just showed up”.

Well long story but that trip to the gun store cost me dearly, but was well worth it. It’s marked as a Sterling conversion with the British marked BNP proofed barrel.

Yes it shoots great and is a lot cheaper to feed!

I have only seen one of these 308's other then mine and that was in a book a friend has about Enfields.

What kind of finish is that on the Sterling N0.4, hard chrome?

so that started life as a 44 FAZ , is there a serial number on it somewhere ? i see they scrubbed the original

my reason for asking is i dont think there were a lot of these made , my charnwood was #088 , i think we are talking hundreds rather than thousands in this area ,

ive heard the sterlings had a great reputation , the mags were the best , and they shot very accurately , but the info was read , elsewhere , and i have no further info on these

That magazine on the rifle was the first thing in the pic that jumped out at me. Very interesting.
