Whats a dispersal rifle?

Weren't they making the No.4 Mk1 in 1942 ??????

yes they were bruce , but they were still making the no1 as well , BSA was the only producer of no1s at this time period however , everyone else was into the no4s [in england that is , the ausies were still producing there and indians there]

i think you will find all in those years are considered dispersals after the bombing started in 1940 they got hit badly reducing capacity to 50% , and halting it in august and again in november , so they had to spread things out enought to not loose it all in one hit , that got under way in late 1940-early 1941 , it ran into 1944 , they are noted by the "B" marking rather than the normal factory mark and stampings are individual , missaligned , and some parts may be canabilized from other rifles of all manufacture , there were 42 diferent factory locations involved ,

i felt real fortunate to find this one in all 'new' parts , essencialy none are evident canibalisation bits , all numbered the same without any strikeouts , including the bbl under the rear handguard and its a '42 -

thats what i live for, gotta keep you all thinking enfields, everything else has its faithful followers, and theres so few of us in this forum.

oh, and sometimes i need to remind even myself that there was a method to my madness, even if it does differ from some of the others who collect these.

im very fond of BSAs and FAZs if you didn't notice, but not to the exclusion of the LSA, EFD, and LBs in my collection.
never met an enfield i didn't like, only a few i didn't want

it actualy does , ive not taken it out in a long time but it was quite satisfactory last time i did , i even had a friend trying to buy it for just that reason , but i think he weanted a deer rifle and lacked appreciation for its historical value

The first Dispersal rifles came out with 1940 dates---


and the last of them are dated "1944"---



The 1940 rifles seem to pop up fairly often, but the 1944s are real shy.

Had to check the year of mydispersal example and its 1942 like A-Square. Now thanks to Krinko I'm going to have to find a 1944

im impressed with his 40, id not thought that they started that early by my reference reading, but i think one of each year might be a goal ,
but with the time it took to find the 'one' ive got i may not live long enough,
