Here is my small pile of Enfield rifles for all to see! This is the results of about 8 years of hunting for these rifles and if I could find decent surplus ammo they would be used more often. The 308 gets the most use and is the prettiest of the bunch.

On page 237 of the book "the lee enfield story" by Ian Skennerton it states this: Going back to the begining of the 7.62mm NATO era,the strength of the No.4 action was sufficient for higher pressure 7.62mm cartridge, however,as the No.1 action was not as strong,no serious moves were made in england in this direction.Test with a reinforced No.1 action were made in Australia, in India the 7.62mm NATO variant of the No.1 rifle was produced as the rifle 2A. For the refurbished 7.62mm No.4 rifles, the first "conversion kit" was developed by Sterling Armament and patented in 1959. The sterling Armament conversion kit consisted of a new 7.62mm barrel made in Belgium by Canons Delcour, a new bolthead, extractor, charger guide adaptor, ejector and magazine made by sterling. There is a picture of a conversion and it has the same mag as your rifle. There is more info about this but to much for me to type. hope it helps. 1000 conversions were sent to Sierra Leone.New Zealand Armed forces adopted some in 1960 for the police force. The next page talks about a kit made by Enfield to convert No.5 rifles to 7.62mm

mark , every time i see your sterling i kick myself for selling my charnwood , both of these were state of the art conversions to 308 , and not the indian 762x51 nato rifles in any way , true 308 match rifles ,

wonder if i even have a photo anymore ? must look when i get time ,

thanks for the compliment but you know my collection is limited - just in that funky cedar box :lol

FUNKY CEDAR BOX?

You have got to be kidding me! Yes that 308 is a great rifle. Our mutual acquaintance has a spare mag and he only wants 125.00. I need to bug him more about it!

he does have some one would like to touch , doesn't he ?

i want a full accounting of each and every one , start left-to-right bottom row and work up , i can guess but i want the facts ............

ill add mine if it seems there is interest , but this new stuff is really fun - mine are in the archives ,

we need a bit of activity here in the enfeild area - the Mosins have been dominating for far too long
