In 1922 Britain made 10-20,000 Mk V Smles for testing. Does anyone know much about these other than they had a receiver sight and looked more like the Number 1s? They were never officially accepted as part of the enfield aresenal. Does anyone know what one is worth?

there were about 20000 made [and issued] between 1922-1924 , they were not accepted and the mkVI [very few made] became the no4 ,

That helps a lot. That is a good looking specimen. Personally I like the No. 4 in its final form. A lot less parts. I can see why they streamlined it.

this is the last official SMLE , since there were only a few hundred mkVIs ,

as to the price - ive seen a good number of sported examples going in the $300-500 range , some more salvageable than others and ive seen where complete examples have sold $750-1500 , there are many examples that are nearly complete that only needed a key part or two ,

mine is obviously missing the original stock disc , but otherwise is complete - id received it with two piling swivels , the one you see in the photo and a correct narrow one thats on it now , i dont beleive ill mess with the coin its correct vintage and adds character ,

and probably will end up with complete rifles one day after collecting them
