I got this at the show yesterday. I let myself get "took", I saw the flat bottomed magazine and thought it was a .308, and the guy lied to me that it was. I didn't bother to look it over good enough beofre I paid for it, and there were so many people, I gave up trying to find him again.
I was thinking it might have been a sniper, but I think somewhere along the way, someone put on an after market scope base, and added a wooden cheek rest. It's also been duffle cut, but I wasn't too worried about that, when I thought it was a .308.
it has a brass butt plate though
It has an extra long pin through the rear sight, and the extractor screw is missing
I've checked a few places, but haven't seen anything that looks like it would fit this type of set-up. I have found a couple of wooden cheek pieces though.
The bore is excellent, so I can't decide if I should set it up with a scope again, or get a new stock piece and leave it looking original.
It's dated 1943, but I can't see any makers mark on it. Asquare thought it almost looked like it could have a Maltby marking on it, but couldn't say for sure.
Any help in the scope mount would be greatly appreciated
