To answer the question "Have I ever seen a .303 like this" I'd have to say yes. The description of Torah Bora region might be a bit of a stretch. These rifles are reputed to be coming out of the afghanistan/pakistan/india region and are current manufacture for the US market.

I believe you will find a Tennesse Guns import mark on the barrel.

None of the parts will be British made and there is a great deal of doubt that these rifles have ever undergone a proper proof testing. I personally would not shoot one as a post on gunboards recently indicated that with shooting, the receiver/bolt arrangement was exhibiting signs of bad metallurgy.

The font used in the cypher and markings on the right butt socket is not British and I believe them to be copies with that rifle more likely having been built in 2004 than 1904.

This thread was all I could find in a quick search but there is plenty out there on them.

However, for an interesting wall hanger, the price was right.

link didnt work for me - but ill bet the comments above are fairly accurate

BTW tetsau , dont be quite so quick to back away , i think the input is critical to everyones full understanding , and much of the commentary would not have occured had you not speculated on the things you noted , i missed quite a bit myself - particularly gerys observation reguarding the absent bayo lug , hang in there and stay with us

We don't know. We never heard back from people who went out to shoot them. :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Seriously, a lot of people are very wary of them or shoot them with reduced loads. The metallurgy is questionable and too varied to be safe. They often use whatever is at hand for receivers. I know that some were made from the hulls of broken up old cargo ships so "caveat emptor"
This was shown on an old 60 minute or similar program where they were making C96 bolos from salvaged ship steel. The remarkable thing is that they were using a Bridgeport type mill and did case harden the frames. So you might get a good one or ------------not.
