Try soaking the screw from the front side of the receiver ring, if that doesn't work, a quick hit with the old "Blue Tip Wrench" from same side then try to remove.

Also try a spare tire iron/wrench to give you some leverage

Tetsau,

I have tried multiple things for the Enfield butt stock bolt and finally made my own "ultimate" tool that I'll take a picture of later. Et2SS has suggested a tire iron - that would be the best choice of what you'll have immediately available.

Check that you don't have a leather washer sitting on top of the bolt - if you do it'll interfere with the fit - solution is a wire coathanger to fish it out.

My experience of penetrating oils has not been good for this problem but again, I have heard of people swearing by "kroil"

My ultimate tool is made of hex tool steel 14" long with a precise machined screwdriver head that fits the full length of the bolt slot.
I have a power bar that fits onto the shaft that gives me the leverage to remove any bolt.

first - you did take the forewood off first right ? thats critical with the no1 or you will crack the forestock ,

second - i agree with the penetrating oil and heat from the front , but if all else fails put some down the trap and soak a little while , often the rust is in the socket between the wood and bolt and only needs a little loosening , it will need to get dried out and dont oversoak from that end

third - use the big screw driver with the broad blade that fits the head slot or it will bugger , one with a hex shaft will alow a wrench for turning - i actualy have a socket with blade and have used it with my impact wrench it jars it loose if done gently a couple whacks at a time

but i like attacking it from the receiver end with the kroil

kroil is just a penetrateing oil , like red arrow , liquid wrench , break free or something else you might use in the auto/tractor repair , but better than WD40

the impact wrench i use is electric , im not sure where i got the socket with the driver blade but it fit and worked .........wonder where i put that thing ? if i can find it id send it to you

A Square,

Yes, I also should have included electric. Both the Air and electric wrenches are far better than a hand operated impact wrench in breaking loose a stuck bolt. My dad had spent hours trying to get the blade bolt loose on a Snapper rider without success. I came in got my air impact wrench slapped it on and Bam! it came loose. It is hard to try holding a manuallly operated impact wrench and hit it with a hammer and keep a screwdriver socket hard in place.
