Im way limited as to knowlage about English issue rifles...

I do have a Savage #4 U.S. Property Ive had for mega years.
The second son hunts with a #5 carbine, sent him by OldArisaka, and its at about 100 Caribou in the last 2 years....the boy makes gas $ hunting Caribou for elders, and fur for himself, in Selawik village nowadays. Got a bunch of POF ammo for him before summer ended, so he left his 91/30, and took my best shotgun insted. :-? KIDS!........I figure hell slip in some dark and stormy night, and swap rifles when his ammo drys up :lol

That would then get it "On the stack" as we say.

Then I have this Indian made .308....with a sucky plastic stock. Looks like a #1mkIII ( I now know) and I'd like to get a magizine and some new wood for it.
Needs a special mag, or what?

This may lead to a new venue of collecting, if I keep at it, I just wanna get what I got up to snuff.

Parts?

Thanks, Et2ss, I'll get a set.
A-Square10,
I Picked up the rifle last year, and tryed to post a pict, but it was very dark....Id have to look for it on photo bucket. ITs a cheap sporterizing with cheap "COLD" stocks, as plastic is.Wood is warm :P
The guns I use are boxed, and 1/2 are here1/2 in Deering. Alot of stuff is "In the mail" ~LOL!~The guns I collect , I store are in my little houses attic, here in Noorvik, soon to apear on these boards...I gotta get out my babys!
I am looking to fix up every gun I own to working order, and while I have the funds, the " Indian Job" is on my list of guns to fix. :lol :lol

And they are good shooters too! And available calibre as well. You will be able to get lots of 7,62 NATO off of the 'civilian security force' and 'powder blue helmets'

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh............

" 2 a 1"....as in #2, a1? these designations need some sinking in.
Ammo's no problem.Got LOTS...... thousands of rounds of Austrian Hertinberg 7.62X51,....never did shoot it much, as Mosins took over my Soul  ......where would I end? Not till the ammo's gone, I d venture to say...~LOL!~
That stuff should do the job.
Ssporters didnt have them, but hooked me up with a fella who beat them by 10$....cool! so Wood is on the way E2ss, thanks.

well - the nomenclature of the 762 nato rifles in india is a diferant animal - they made a 2A & a 2A1 [rear sight was the diferance - both look alike but are ranged diferantly ] no one else made these ,

india started with conversions in 1905 of MLE rifles to charger loading similar to the SMLE mkI rifles , after a long delayed factory setup , production of new rifles started in 1907 with SMLE mkI* rifles , they did lots of conversions to mkIII/III* , later they marked them mk3* ,
they did a bunch of 'trials' stuff including a trials no6 'jungle carbine' but no no4&5 rifles were made [the no4s are pakistan]
they also did a knockoff FAL combining the belgian metric and brit/canadian/ausie inch bits to create a totaly incompatible rifle ,

there is a 'specific' indian rifle worth note - an MLE mkI* IP , these used the SMLE mkI bolt head charger guide ,
they also made a SL [single loader] version in 1923 , and of coarse the 410s ,

technicaly , if you 'say' "no2" - you are refering to a trainer version of the no1[smle] rifles , i realise for non-enfeild folks it may seem confusing but its all in the details
