Hello all

I have a Savage US Property #4 mk1* that was near new with serial number 66C92XX. It had great US and Brit markings including matching number on the lower forestock. And is all metal matching including the mag.

Well long story short a close friend of mine was here to visit and I had just oiled the stock and set it on the ground. He had moved the stock parts to the bed of his truck to get them in the moving sun. Hours later he drove off home 30 miles away and someplace between me and him is my stock parts!

Ok so I'm on a parts hunt and it looks like the lower forestock will be the hardest to find in Walnut and NOS. My question is dose anyone have a contact for NOS American/Savage Walnut lower front stock and buttstock?

I have found and bought the correct top wood in NOS (marked S, no box). The nice Brit and US markings are as we say "oh well" and this was a great new looking rifle. It still is just with no wood. :-(

Thanks for your esteem knowledge and ideas!

LOL

Maybe that's why he has not been back!! Trish told me that he even called her and told her how bad he felt. I feel bad for him! Friendship is more important then the stock by far.

MyBusa,
Have put the word out amongst a few of my fellow collectors - SpikeDD in New Jersey thinks he may have a source, he's just waiting for a reply to his e-mail. I guess everyone's busy over the festive season.

Thanks guys!

I have seen NOS Savage Walnut pop up from time to time so I know it's out there. I think I mentioned that I bought the top NOS wood allready.

Now I'm looking for the buttstock and lower wood. I did buy a Brit buttstock that is NOS but A square was correct the Brit walnut is way off from the good ol American black walnut.

Oh well I needed a Brit buttstock for my semi sten project anyways.

Mybusa,

I almost certainly have a NOS butt stock in amongst my spares. I have about 50 of them in all shapes, sizes and wood. Most of them are Canadian marked but I do have two Savage marked butt stocks. The Savage ones are the orange/red color that darkens with oiling. Can you post a picture of the hand guards so I can see if the savage butt stocks match your color. If not, I'll definitely have it in the canadian marked stocks - but not sure if you'd want one of those.

That would be great! I will dig out the hand guards and photo them. They are the same color as the stock that I had. And yes I would like to keep it all Savage as that's what it was. The sad part is the buttstock and lower wood were serial numbered to the rifle :-(

Thanks again

might be worth cleaning the old finish and adjusting the stain color on this one , a bit of acetone or somesuch - no sanding , and some mixing and dry brushing of the stain might get that match made ,

I have some good photos that I took today of the Brit stock and the hand guards to show the difference in color. I can hold out for the right parts for now. Here they are, the two photos are in different lighting but you can tell from the Brit marked stock and the Savage top wood color.

Thanks for the pics. Unfortunately my Savage marked butt stocks don't match - I do have a Canadian marked butt stock that matches (North American Walnut), but I'll see if anyone else can turn up a savage marked one.

Thanks for looking! Where is the Canadian one marked at? Is it in an area that would be hard to see once installed?

It's marked on the underside of the wrist along with the inspector's stamp

Can you send me a photo? If it's that desecrate I may use it as it is better then what I have now and it should be the same true American black walnut.

It looks nice to me. In your opinion does it look close to my hand guards that I posted? If so then shoot me a price via PM and we can go from there. Long Branch/Savage hey their close cousins!
