thats an interesting piece , you are correct its a 1918 dated BSA mkIII* , she was chromed after she was surplussed me thinks , but i could be wrong on that it may have been a parade piece before she was sported , it strikes me that as a sporter chrome might not be an asset so perhaps she was , she has an early cocking-button on the end of the bolt and she looks to have her original backsight from what i can see , as well as original safety and magazine , look at the mag and the bolt handle and the top of the reciever to see if numbers match , the number on the stock and bayonet boss are long gone , cant tell on that front sight but someone sported the stock and her front handguard is gone , the rear handguard looks to have had the leggs cut off [common in a sport/and indian refurb] but does not have the ishy screw and that looks to be a nice walnut stock set , the buttstock looks original with original buttplate , i see her sling swivel is gone did they fit it with a plug ? the arrow is a military acceptance mark , top of reciever may have a marking or number that could provide added info of her travels but the little marks you mention are inspection marks , records on these are pretty much non-existant but sometimes you can ID a unit mark or rack number [1915 BSA mkIII has the D-arrow-D of ausie issue and '3' of the 3rd military district , so i know she served there] she should be a good shooter and certainly has character , enjoy it |
