I see how it's fired... would a private in extreme disfavor be in charge of chambering fresh rounds? :kap: SW

yup - too much serious makes steve a dull boy :lol

but seriously - i wish i knew more about these , its an interesting aspect of the trench warfare , something ive never really understood the purpose of , the trench - not the rifle , it seems so much like just staying put and getting nowhere , except dead , and for all the wrong reasons ,

i think the answer lies in the move from cavalry - which were exposed to armored which were moderatly protected , but with the 'gas' and the confinement , its a wonder anyone came home sane

In trench warfare, it was a simple matter for both sides to register their MGs to fire at a height that would remove helmets... and contents. :-o

Just this afternoon, I was reading from Rommel's WW1 memoirs about such fighting. Seems they spent a LOT of time digging and used a LOT of grenades.

And lost a LOT of men. A war of attrition had to suck big time. SW

Ever see a Springfield in the Pantograph Stock?
The rifle looked normal when folded but the stock was hinged to allow shooting over a parapet with a periscope sight.
