My friend who owns a gun shop had this come in on consignment, I was thinking of trying to add it to the collection till I found out how much they are going for. I put it on his GB for him. I was looking at it and there seems to be some sort of O ring on the bolt, I was wondering if that was originally Cork or something else. I guess you can still make ammo for it cause the guy who had it was shooting it. we don't get many French guns in. |

I recently saw a write up for making the paper cartridges for these. Problem is the firing pins erode quickly and the gas rings gave way. They needed constant changing in the field. I think the rubber is correct for these. |

I wonder if modern pyrodex would help avoid the corrosion |

I think it was more erosion not corrosion. The pin and seal are exposed to a direct powder 'burn'. |

Pretty sure that book value, I told him I thought it might be a little high and the market small. |

Chassepots rock. Cutting edge for their time and the Prussians loved using them if they found them. The rubber ring had to be replaced in the field as the technology was new. Best Regards, Mark |
