Well I bought this carbine for a dealer in Boston who assured me it was a completely matching French rifle. I have seen the type of front on some engineer Mauser carbines. It is hard to read the older markings but they say Mle 1907/15.

I'm sure it has been restampted with a new serial number 4461 the same number is on the bolt but there is an older number on the bolt also. Other then that the bolt head, stock and trigger section do not match. One member here suggested that it is a Turk Forester carbine.

One the top of the receiver is an N and under that T. C. and under that ORMAN and under that 1948. Is this a Turk Forester carbine or ? What caliber would it be, still 8mm lebel or ?

Thanks for any info.

Here are the photos.

These are neat little carbines. The N means that the bore was modified to use the Balle 1932N round which has a .326" bullet. Orman is Turk/Arabic for Forestry-had to research that one. That nosecap is salvaged from the M1905 Mauser carbine supposedly.-TR

That's a nice looking rifle there! Thanks again all for the info. I will continue to kick myself for the lie from the seller about the all matching.

I'm finding out now that they were not. They were quickly made for a purpose and not matching other then the new stamped number on the receiver and bolt. While leaving the old vintage style number from much earlier days on the bolt handle. The seller from Boston in this case lied and said the rifle was all matching.
