Just got another medal. I'm not entirely sure what it represents, but it's in good shape & was priced modestly so I grabbed it. I'm checking around to see for sure what it's for.

And wouldn't I like to have this kepi! But I suspect few survive in this condition outside museums.

Just for the fun of it, here's the kit of an Italian soldier in N Africa. Seen therein is a "red devil" grenade. They were named by the Brits who discovered if you saw one laying on the ground, never try to pick it up. There was a 90% chance it would then detonate. I researched these for a book & discovered there were different styles of fuses - all hairy. SW

Some of the hats go for big $. I bought the medal from an Italian vendor at the expo in Ciney. Before he could talk to me I watched a fellow peel out 1000 Euros for a brass Hussar's helmet from the days of Napoleon. He was all happy to get it & the Italian guy was smiling, too. SW
