Hi. I'm new from New Orleans, La. I just got my c+r and have been buying up cheap mil-surps. How'd I do. I traded 2 G22 magazines for it. So I think it's a 1891/38 Carcano 6.5mm 1918 Roma. About 250k made from Roma 1917-18. Anyone know anything else, or am I wrong? Is it worth fixing back up to former military looks, or should I sell it? I like it but I'm not too sure where to look for parts. Thanks!!!

I love these old mil-surps and I can't wait to learn a bit more. You can probably see the coat of black paint on it. I assume it would have come in blue, not paint?

Ta-daaaaaaaa! Another happy landing! Home again to stain the kitchen chair with coal dust.

You have the remains of an M91 long rifle = no M91/24 FARE marks. Unfortunately, it has been cut down and the cost to restore it would be way too high... Unless it was Benito Mussolini's personal rifle.

These have gain twist rifling which is a bit tighter than 9 turns toward the muzzle. Which is needed to stabilize the long 160 grainers. Meaning it wouldn't shoot well at all since the end has been cut off. And stocks are hard to find.

But don't give up! There are plenty of nice shooters around. If you see something on which you'd like to bid and aren't sure, please ask questions here. SW

Thank you for your knowledge. I'm happy to know, but sad that she's not very fixable. I read before about the progressive rifling and thought the shortening was a bad idea. Well, I suppose now I need to find one to hang on to.

Thanks for the welcomes! I cleaned it yesterday for the heck of it and the bore is really nice with sharp lands and grooves, and she shines! That makes it even more disappointing...

It wouldn't hurt to try it with lighter 6,5 caliber bullets. If it has a tight bore, it might not do too badly. SW
