And I can't believe nobody else bid! A Brescia cav moschetto from 1919 and with the uber scarce FIAT steel vendor mark. It's so scarce, nobody else has ever seen it.
Plus! It's extremely probable this is the very last Carcano from WW1. The serial number is quite a ways above the known last one made. I've checked with two fellows who have serious data bases for Carcano serial numbers, and they agree it could well be the last one made until 1932 when things were heating up in East Africa.
Fiat did make machine guns, aircraft engines and other war material... also steel for other purposes. This is the first Carcano seen with their mark.
My theory is that there were a quantity of parts left over from the war. That they not lay around to no good use, they were assembled with new made receivers.
I'll post better pics when I have it in hand. Now to find a Carcano with the V for Vickers steel code! SW
