On an Italian site, a fellow posted pics of a Carcano his Grandfather "saved" from the war. Looks like he should have given it a good coat of yak fat before forgetting where it was. The OP asked advice on giving it a "facelift". Expressed an interest in shooting it.
Of greater concern to forum members was his being "denounced" to the police. He didn't seem concerned so he must have had a license. Italy is pretty strict on such things. You need a license for bayonets and swords there!
But there's a lot of history here & it could no doubt tell stories. One suggestion was liberal use of what they called "Rice's Elbow Grease".
Hmmm... yeah - it should buff out.
