Contrary to the "sniper" hype some sellers advertise, the DST set ups on Carcanos were made in Austria between the wars and were meant for hunting applications.
If you want one to fill a slot in the collection, well & fine, but think twice about buying one to shoot. A lot of wood has to be removed before the DST will function properly. So much so that the stock will invariably shatter. Like every time.
I think the only solution would be a custom inletted polymer stock, but imagine the expense of that! I did buy one knowing in advance the stock was ruined. I wanted pics of the trigger mechanism for a book but took time to look the stock over carefully.
I had delusions of putting it into a sporter stock I had on hand but gave the idea up as a waste of time. You have to remove a LOT of wood. in any case, here are pics showing part of the problem. The stock I had was broken so badly, you couldn't see the root cause. Bottom line: know well the stock is broken with a DST or will break when fired. SW
