Ring hammer, flat side model 1899 broomhandle Mauser specific to the Italian Navy. These had their own serial range from 1 to 5000. The key marks are a tiny DV and AV (Navy proofs) found under the barrel.

They were used in the Chinese Boxer rebellion, fighting in Libya, Italy's war with Turkey and in WW1. Examples also saw use in Colonial Africa.

And wouldn't I like to have one! But not at the going prices. SW
