Up for auction right now is a Carcano marketed as a "mountain oil stock rifle". Seller goes on to say Italian mountain troops "soaked their rifle stocks in old motor oil". This allegedly kept water from seeping into the wood and when frozen in the mountains would cause cracks.... Riiiiight. :bull: :bull: :bull: But what about rifles that went to Russia - where it's really cold? Nope! :lol These were used by elite Alpini!!

What's that you say? It looks very much like one of the many "Suprema" sporters stained black by an importer in the early 60s? That's because it is!

I've seen some wild claims, but this is the wildest one so far. Remember - buy the gun - not the story! SW

i always wonder at the imagination expended to come up with these concoctions , it would be fun to be a mouse in the corner when they answer questions from potential buyers ,

Don't know but I would imagine it's something like, "Well I can see you don't know very much about antique collectable rifles so listen up and I will give you a bit of education on this here rare gun."
Like hogger said pure :bull:
