It has taken many years of searching for an Italian rifle Nebrhogger does not have and it may be this one!!

Nope. Don't have one of them-there Bredas like that. Is that a cool muzzle brake or what! 8)

And one of those helmets with tail feathers intact would be worth a few hundred!

You bring up a very interesting point, and I haven't the reference books to adequately answer. It certainly could be a Solothurn, but generally speaking, the Italians had little German equipment.

Never say never, though!

I may have shot my mouth off by speaking 'Breda' too soon. They did use those in quantity in the 20mm variety... also a 20mm Scotti... also a similarly-sized Skoda weapon ( the Italians used a more than a few Skoda designs, and quite a lot of the steel used in Carcano rifles came from the Czech foundries at Skoda & Polte)

In the pic,we can't see much of the rifle, but another possibility is a captured Brit Boyes Mk1* AT rifle. It had a wild muzzle brake and fed from a mag like the a-gunner holds. The later Boyes also used a Solothurn muzzle brake with additional holes drilled along the sides.

** The Complete Encyclopedia of Weapons of WWII, p 213**

There's considerable circumstantial evidence pointing to this being a captured Boyes... charging handle on the right side... the Boyes was used against Italians in Eritria & N Africa...

Perhaps someone with better reference books than me can add to the thread. Sw

But you will need a deck mount for your pickup bed as I don't think your shoulder will benefit greatly from firing a few sighters! :-o
