Here are some cartouche markings on an 1891 Carcano that is dated 1896 on the barrel. I think the FAG54 is the redo mark (not sure) but if thats the case I'm surprised that it was rebuilt that late. What would the S or C in a box and the RIP. stand for? |

thats a beauty for sure , i know nothing of these rifles but i have seen that rebuild cartouch elsewhere and thats what it was explained as being |

You will see the refurb cartouches into the 60s. I have a very nice M41 with a FAT 68 refurb mark. I have seen the RIP mark before but can't recall the meaning. Airdale might have that one. SW |

RIP = Riparazione (Repair) FAG = Fabbrica d'armi Gardone (Gardone Arms Factory) SG = Probably the inspectors initials |
