I had a bit of good luck with Carcanos at an auction and had one passed down to me by my grandpa. That makes four. One is the Mida Brescia long rifle, two are calvary carbines and the 4th is a 91/28 T.S. Interestingly, all four have Brescia markings. The early calvary carbine says FNA Brescia on the barrel breech, the late calvary carbine (post 1943?) says "Franchi Brescia" under the barrel (covered by stock), and the the 91/28 says Brescia Lorenzotti on the barrel breech. The late calvary carbine is also stamped 7.9 on the breech, which I understand to mean 8mm Mauser.

I welcome any other input you have. I've been reading http://personal.stevens.edu/~gliberat/c ... odels.html as my major resource, but welcome your personal observations.

A couple of scarce marks there. "L. Franchi" was an inspector at the Brescia plant. Lorenzotti Brescia is a scarce maker.

You are getting off to a fine start collecting Italian rifles!! Proceed with caution, though... they can become habit forming!!! :bigrin:

Is the 7.9 stamped on the barrel breech or on top of the rear sight? All the Italian conversions I have seen have it stamped on top of the rear sight. In my opinion military surplus 8MM ammo is too hot for these carbines and recommend you use mild handloads or U.S. made commercial ammo if you want to shoot it.

Mida Brescia and Lorenzotti Brescia are fairly scarce makers and nice to have as examples in one's collection. Congrats.
